Chisinau, Feb. 7 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and President of the European Council Charles Michel approached turning to good account of the status of a candidate country for EU accession and the level of implementation of the reform agenda necessary in initiating negotiations, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials discussed the challenges and crises faced by the Moldovan authorities last year, as well as the regional aspects that could slow down our country's efforts to join the EU.

Gavrilita expressed gratitude for the support that the Republic of Moldova has received from European institutions and EU member states, including for the support in granting the status of a candidate country. At the same time, she thanked the official for his personal involvement in promoting the interests of our country and strengthening institutional capacities.

Gavrilița highlighted the measures taken by the government to reduce the impact of overlapping crises on national security and the well-being of citizens, including by offering compensation in the energy bill. The premier also spoke about the economic recovery efforts initiated by the Executive together with entrepreneurs and development partners.

"The Republic of Moldova continues to face the elements of a hybrid war, with hundreds of cyber attacks recorded last year. Propaganda and disinformation, border security and illegal migration are other threats Chisinau faces," she said.

Relations with Ukraine and support for the neighboring country, including the provision of humanitarian aid was another issue addressed during the meeting. The European official appreciated the will of the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and the good cooperation with Ukraine. Charles Michel said that despite the country's limited resources, the openness and solidarity of the Republic of Moldova towards Ukraine and its citizens is admirable.

Also, the two officials exchanged views on organization of a meeting of the European Political Community in the Republic of Moldova, the agenda of the event and the level of its preparation.
