Moldovan PM, high-ranking EU official discuss consolidation of Moldova's security

Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell at a meeting have discussed mainly the strengthening of Moldova’s capacities in the field of combating misinformation and hybrid threats, as well as measures of consolidating the national security, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM appreciated the launch of the Moldova-EU high-level political and security dialogue in March 2022 and reconfirmed the country’s interest in cooperation in the defence sector. ‘’Through this platform, complementary ways of cooperation, as well as the sectors where EU’s additional support is essential are identified,’’ the prime minister said.
Also, Natalia Gavrilita thanked the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the assistance provided by the EU within the European Peace Facility, which gave the National Army opportunities worth 40 million euros in its approach of modernization. As for the infringements of Moldova’s air space, triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine, the PM asked for additional assistance in the anti-air defence sector.
Josep Borrell appreciated the Moldovan government’s role in maintaining under control of the situation in the security field, reiterating EU’s support in the process of aligning the defence institutions with the EU’s standards.
