Rescuers from Ukraine going on mission to Turkey cross Moldova

Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - The rescuers from Ukraine who go on mission to Turkey today were escorted by Moldovan colleagues on the territory of Moldova. The team of Moldovan rescuers who left for Turkey on mission is to reach the destination on 8 February morning. Both teams will help the Turkish authorities cope with the consequences of the devastating earthquakes, which resulted in more than 5,000 people dead.    

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), today morning, the Ukrainian rescuers crossed the border of Moldova at the Palanca checkpoint, where they were waited by rescuers and border policemen, who provided every necessary support for the processing of the border crossing procedures.

In Moldova, the rescuers of Ukraine are escorted by policemen up to the Cahul—Oancea border crossing point. Fifty two Ukrainian rescuers with 16 vehicles, as well as eight search dogs are to join the international mission of providing support to recover the people hit by the disaster and the victims of the earthquake from Turkey.              

On 6 February evening, 55 Moldovan rescuers with 12 heavy vehicles, as well as two dogs left for Turkey on mission. Today morning, they crossed the border with Romania and the one with Bulgaria and are to reach the destination on 8 February morning. On the spot, the Inspectorate’s employees will connect with the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD) and will intervene in the risk zone under its aegis.  

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 degrees on the Richter open sale hit south Turkey. So far, 70 countries have offered to provide assistance in search and rescue operations. The death toll of the earthquakes from Turkey grew to 3,549 people and 22,000 are injured. More than 8,000 people were saved from under rubble.
