Moldovan president meets U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment

Chisinau, 8 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez, on a visit to Chisinau.

According to the presidential press service, the officials referred to the negative impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on Moldova and the way the authorities manage the energy crisis, the inflation’s increase and the economic difficulties, which are consequences of the Russian aggression.    

The head of state expressed gratitude for the long-lasting partnership with the United States and for the every financial support provided by the American friends to overcome the crises of the last year. Maia Sandu stressed also the contribution of the United States to the development of the democracy and the advancement of the fight against corruption. In the context, the Moldovan president emphasized the sanctions issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the American Treasury against more individuals and entities from Moldova who had stolen public money and undermined the security of the state.
