Dorin Recean nominated for position of PM in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has signed the decree, under which Dorin Recean was nominated candidate for the office of prime minister. The head of state made statements to this effect following the consultation of the parliamentary factions.   

Maia Sandu said the new cabinet would have to enhance the country’s security level, boost the economic growth, attract new investments and speed up the reforms in the judicial system.  

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said that, on the days to come, discussions would take place on the priorities and agenda for the next period. ‘’We are waiting for Dorin Recean with the government’s action programme next week,’’ Igor Grosu said.   

The candidate nominated for the office of prime minister, Dorin Recean, thanked for trust and support, noting that he would immediately initiate the creation of the governmental team. ‘’We will immediately launch actions on three important dimensions: order and discipline in institutions, a new life for the economy and peace and stability,’’ the nominated candidate said.   

Dorin Recean has been holding the position of presidential adviser in the national defence and security sector, secretary of the Supreme Security Council since February 2022. He also acted as interior minister in the Filat government during 2012-2015.  

Under the Constitution, the candidate nominated for the office of PM, on a period of 15 days after the nomination, will ask for the parliament’s vote of confidence on the action programme and the entire list of the cabinet. To be able to appointed to office, the new government will have to get the vote of the majority of the lawmakers.  

The actions take place after Natalia Gavrilita today tendered resignation from the office of prime minister, following one year and a half of mandate.
