Moldovan cabinet set to attract investments worth 3 billion lei to agricultural sector till 2030

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - The development of the agricultural sector, the consolidation of the food security and safety, of the well-being and better living conditions in the rural environment are the principal goals of the National Strategy of Agricultural and Rural Development (SNDAR) for 2023-2030, approved by the cabinet today, at a proposal by the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.       

The document includes objectives aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector, developing the food industry and diversifying the markets, ensuring the transposition of the EU acquis and its progressive implementation.   

The goal of the Strategy’s enforcement is for the public investments in the agricultural sector to record constant increases up to more than 3 billion lei till 2030. At the same time, following the exclusion of the bureaucratic obstacles, increase in the value added in agriculture and of the labour productivity, the share of private investments is to reach about 13 billion lei by 2030. This means that the overall value of the investments in the agricultural sector will be about 4.63 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), against 1.66 per cent in 2020.    

The fulfillment of the objectives formulated in SNDAR will allow rehabilitating the centralized irrigation systems on an area of 30,000 hectares, increasing by at least 50 per cent the volumes of animal husbandry production in farms, enforcing good agricultural practices on an area of at least 150,000 hectares of farmlands, increasing the export of agro-food products by 15 per cent.     

The SNDAR goals were worked out in line with the needs of the farmers and consumers and are oriented to the Sustainable Development Goals, established in the United Nations Agenda 2030. In the context of Moldova’s aspirations to join the European Union, SNDAR aligns with the Common Agricultural Policy – European model based on the principles of food sovereignty, sustainability, capacity of improving the productivity and enhancing the competitiveness of the agricultural sector.    

The government specifies that the strategy is to be implemented with the involvement of the national authorities, international partners and business environment.
