Moldovan head of state meets President of United States in Warsaw

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 21 February participated in the public event in Warsaw, at an invitation by U.S. President Joe Biden.

According to the presidential press service, the White House leader gave a historical speech in Poland, which marked one year since the starting of the war waged by Russia against Ukraine. Following the message by the American president, the Moldovan head of state discussed with her Washington counterpart the consequences of the war against Ukraine on Moldova and the Moldovan leadership’s efforts to maintain the peace and public order in the country.

„I conveyed to President Biden that the Moldovans want to be part of the free world, to live in peace and fulfill their dream to join the European Union. I also thanked him for the important support provided by the USA for the economic development and democratic transformation of our country,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

At the same time, the Moldovan head of state availed herself of the occasion of this meeting, in order to convey to the president of the United States that, in the difficult situation faced, with a war at the border, we even more need the support on behalf of the USA to strengthen our economic resilience.

„We are grateful to the American nation also for the assistance provided by the U.S. government in the last year to overcome the energy crisis. This allowed us provide compensations to the low-income citizens, in order to be able to easier cope with the high prices for energy resources. We further rely on the support of the American government in our effort to diversify the energy sources and consolidate the energy security,’’ Maia Sandu said.

President Maia Sandu also said that ‘’our American friends were with us back since the first years of Independence and we are happy to see them with Moldova now as well, in these complicated times. I invited President Biden to visit our country again,’’ Maia Sandu added.
