Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled, Culture in the Crosshair, occasioned by the marking of one year of Russia’s invasion against Ukraine, was inaugurated at the National Art Museum today. The event was organized by Moldova’s Culture Ministry, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

Attending the exhibition’s inauguration were Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan, Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova Marko Shevchenko, as well as other officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau.

The exhibition contains 13 posters. The first one shows the map of the Russian invasion from 1817 till present, proofs of Russia’s actions to liquidate the Ukrainian identity. The second poster contains a call by Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko: ‘’The enemy, swallowed by the hysterical hate for Ukraine, tries to destroy everything. Our past, present and future. The recovery of all these things is only up to us.’’

The other posters consist of two parts: a part of the poster shows the picture of the art object respectively, ahead of the aggression and the second part – after the aggression. The posters regard more well-known buildings and monuments, destroyed by the Russian invasion, such as: Theatre Building from Mariupol, the Manson Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky (Chernihiv), Local History Museum (Ivankiv, Kiev region), Skovoroda National Literary Memorial Museum (Skovorodynivka, Kharkiv region), Monument to Taras Shevchenko (Borodyanka, Kiev region), heritage pieces, watched ‘’in the crosshair.’’

In his greeting message, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that this exhibition today was inaugurated in more European capitals. This a message conveyed by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on the aspect of the cultural tragedy. We see museums, community centres, architecture monuments, as they looked before and following the war, in the crosshair.

”This exhibition perfectly fits the string of manifestations on the occasion of the Ukrainian Culture Year in Moldova (2023) and for the support of the Declaration adopted by the culture ministers from ten countries of the Eastern Europe, who last summer assembled in Lviv and signed the Convention on the support and rehabilitation of the material ant intangible heritage of Ukraine after the war. This wrath will end with the victory of Ukraine, beyond doubt,’’ Sergiu Prodan said.

The exhibition will be hosted by the National Art Museum of Moldova during two weeks and subsequently it will be relocated at the headquarters of Moldova’s Culture Ministry.
