Chisinau, March 1. /MOLDPRES/- Greece invests in the development of the infrastructure for the uninterrupted delivery of gas to the Republic of Moldova. President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou made the statement at a today's joint press briefing with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau.
Katerina Sakellaropoulou said that the country wants to deepen bilateral relations. "Today's visit is carried out at a very critical time. We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and consider Russia's invasion of Ukraine absolutely unjustified. The Republic of Moldova felt the impact of the war from the very beginning, the country sheltered refugees. We discussed the current security situation. Greece supports the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and wants a peaceful solution to the Transnistrian conflict. At the same time, the country is better prepared to face the energy crisis, and Greece is investing in the development of the infrastructure for the uninterrupted delivery of gas to the Republic of Moldova. We are willing to help and support the country in European integration," said Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
Maia Sandu said that the Republic of Moldova is determined to advance quickly on the integration into the EU. "We are ready to make every effort for it. At the same time, we continue to rely on the support of the Greek Government and the country's experience in this process. Currently, over 20 thousand Moldovans are in Greece. Last year, a social agreement was signed between our countries, which entered into force on 1 January. We are interested in collaborating in the energy field, I mean the purchase of liquefied gases and their transport to the Republic of Moldova and beyond", said Maia Sandu.
At the same time, the official sent a message of condolences regarding the occurrence of a railway accident in Greece this night, as a result of which at least 32 people died, and another 85 were injured. Officials held a minute's silence in memory of the victims.
Katerina Sakellaropoulou is today on an official visit to Chisinau, after a break of almost 20 years, since the last visit of a Greek head of state to our country. During the meeting, a memorandum was signed between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries for better cooperation in training diplomats.
