Moldovan president meets Secretary General of International Organization of Francophonie

Chisinau, March 18 /MOLDPRES/- On the eve of International Francophonie Day, President Maia Sandu had a meeting with Secretary General of the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF) Louise Mushikiwabo, on a visit to Chisinau, the presidential press service has reported.

The Republic of Moldova is one of the 88 member countries of the large OIF family, the francophone representing a space of solidarity and cooperation of which we are a part.

"We have a long-term partnership with the Francophone University Agency which, in 2022, opened a national office in Chisinau, and students from six universities have the opportunity to train as French language specialists. There are French-speaking bilingual classes in eight high schools in the country, and from this year, the Moldova State University started training future teachers for teaching mathematics, physics, biology in French, in bilingual classes. Civil servants can also study French within the Initiative francophone nationale program," the head of state said.

Maia Sandu thanked the official for supporting the associative sector, but also for the linguistic training of the carabineers from the Ministry of the Interior. "We rely on the OIF's support in the fight against propaganda and disinformation. In the context, I mentioned that recently, the Francophonie operator TV5Monde was included in the mandatory list of TV channels of cable media service distributors", the head of state also said.
