Social enterprises from Cahul, Ungheni to implement community initiatives with EU support

Chisinau, March 24 /MOLDPRES/- Three social enterprises from Ungheni and Cahul regions will benefit from grants up to 60 thousand euros, offered by the European Union, within the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions programme. It is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Thus, in Cahul, educational and personal development courses will be offered in an IT and robotics center for children, and in Ungheni, the online store www.3debine.md will be developed and a hall for inclusive sports activities will be set up.

"Through the financial support provided by the European Union, we contribute to the development of small and medium enterprises and social enterprises in the Ungheni and Cahul regions. The grants offered, along with those made available so far under our EU4Moldova: Focal Regions Programme, support local and national economic development by creating new jobs. We will continue to support the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in achieving the objectives of full integration into the European Union", said Jānis Mažeiks, head of the European Union Delegation to Chisinau, at the ceremony of handing out the grant certificates, held yesterday.

"According to national statistics, SMEs represent 98% of all businesses and provided more than 60% of jobs in the country. UNDP will continue to support entrepreneurs in the Ungheni and Cahul regions and throughout the country. We are inspired by your commitment and tenacity to invest efforts in creating new jobs and attracting investments, to contribute to the resilience of local economies", Andrea Cuzyova, deputy resident representative of UNDP Moldova said.

The EU4Moldova: Focal Regions programme (2019-2024) supports smart, inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in the Cahul and Ungheni regions, to ensure a better quality of life for citizens. The program has a total budget of 23 million euros, is financed by the European Union and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.
