Moldovan head of state has meeting with European Council president

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu in Chisinau today welcomed European Council President Charles Michel, on a visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

„I thanked President Michel for the European Union’s consistent support for Moldova. We are country candidate for accession to EU and we want to start negotiations on accession as soon as possible. We enjoy EU’s support in our effort of transformation in the key sectors – justice reform, fighting corruption, improving the business environment, consolidation of the security sector. We rely on EU’s support for backing the economy, especially of the sector of small- and medium-sized enterprises,’’ the Moldovan president said.

The head of state and the European Council president discussed also the Summit of the European Political Community, which Moldova is to host on 1 June 2023. ‘’For us, this event is a proof of the firm commitment we have taken for the European family, as well as a strong political support which we enjoy in a difficult moment. This is a clear-cut message that we have friends and partners – numerous and strong and Moldova is not alone,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
