Third phase of project on support for mental health services to be implemented in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Health Ministry and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) on the third phase of the project, Support for the reform of the mental health services in Moldova (MENSANA). The project is meant to enhance the degree of residents’ awareness about the mental health problems, to promote the mental health and back people in the process of recovery and inclusion.      

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, within the project, support will be provided for the consolidation of the mental health services at the level of community. Also, emphasis will be put on the active involvement of professionals in the health sector, with cooperation initiated with the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Professionals and social assistants will benefit from training programmes in the mental health field and families and communities – from informing, education and communication activities. 

SDC till 2026 will provide non-refundable assistance worth 5.69 million Swiss francs for the project’s implementation.

Presently, 40 Mental Health Community Centres carry out their activity in districts and cities from Moldova, providing medical assistance and psycho-social rehabilitation, support and mediation in the relations with the family and community.
