Chisinau, March 31 /MOLDPRES/- Almost two thousand families from the villages of the Republic of Moldova will receive fodder this spring as part of emergency assistance, through a two million euro project, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with financial support of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).

"The assistance provided is crucial for vulnerable families whose livelihoods depend on the animals around the house. FAO has prepared a rapid support plan to deal with the emergency, respond to the immediate needs of the sector and mobilize additional resources. Through our joint efforts, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by the crisis and create a sustainable future for the rural population", said Tudor Robu, FAO Deputy Representative in the Republic of Moldova.

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, head of MAIA, said that Moldova is grateful for this help. "The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is committed to working closely with FAO and other development partners in the implementation of agreed actions to mitigate the effects of the current challenges for the agricultural sector," he said.

"In the last days, families in the Republic of Moldova received the necessary support and adapted to the most urgent needs to mitigate the impact of the war in Ukraine and the drought last year. I am grateful to our partners FAO and UNDP for the activities carried out. Together, we ensure that the most vulnerable people have access to opportunities to improve their living conditions, to decent work and satisfactorily paid jobs", said Gunther Zimmer, head of the office of the Austrian Development Agency in Chisinau.

FAO started distributing fodder on March 1 in Basarabeasca district, on March 4 - Căuşeni district and on March 27 - in Cahul district.
