Moldovan, Romanian MPs to cooperate in environmental sectors

Chisinau, March 31 /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan Environment Commission, Romanian Environment Commission and Environment and Ecological Balance Committee from the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament met in Bucharest on March 27-29. Following the discussions, a joint declaration was signed between the three commissions, which provides for ensuring the transfer of expertise and harmonization of the national normative framework with the community acquis in the environment and climate change.

According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, the document expresses the determination of the parliamentary institutions from Chisinau and Bucharest to continue working in areas of mutual interest in order to accelerate the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova.

"We emphasize that the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, which includes components in the green economy, environmental protection and climate change, is the essential instrument for supporting the economic integration of the Republic of Moldova in the European single market", the statement reads.

The parliamentarians noted the commitment assumed by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova for the implementation of reforms in the field of environmental protection and the transition to an energy system based on renewable sources, which will contribute to the achievement of the priority strategic objective of the firm and irreversible connection of our country to the European Union.

At the same time, the parties agreed on the need to speed up the implementation of the Association Agreement, especially the component aimed at developing a greener economy.

The Moldovan delegation attending the meeting in Bucharest included the deputy head of the Environment Commission, Ina Coșeru, commission's secretary Ion Babici, and members of the commission Mariana Cușnir, Iulia Dascălu and Roman Roșca.
