Moldovan deputy premier meets Secretary General of Council of Europe

Chisinau, March 31. /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu meets Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The officials discussed Moldova's progress in implementing the necessary reforms to strengthen the rule of law, democracy and human rights.
"I thanked Mrs. Marija Pejčinović Burić, on this occasion, for the continuous support of the Council of Europe in the justice sector reform process, including through the cooperation with the high-level working group in justice, established with the support of Mrs. Secretary General, this group helping our national authorities in the justice reform process.
I reconfirmed Moldova's commitment to ensure the functionality of institutions in the field of justice that act independently, showing integrity and professionalism. Secretary General Burić assured that she will continue to support our efforts in the anti-corruption.
We discussed the high-level meetings of the first half of this year - the Summit of the Council of Europe in Reykjavík, May 16-17, and the second Summit of the European Political Community, due in Moldova on June 1", the Moldovan official said.
