Moldovan PM says authorities willing to align goals of business environment, public institutions, to ensure economic growth

Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister  Dorin Recean has chaired a plenary meeting of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister, with the participation of Deputy PM, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba. In his speech, the PM referred to the government’s task to modernize and diversify the economy, to implement reforms for the benefit of the economic growth, which are to attract foreign investments and promote the entrepreneurial spirit. Emphasis was put on the boosting of efforts to increase the exports, especially to the European Union, which is the biggest commercial partner of Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

„Moldova is a safe country for investments and the government provides stability and policies oriented to economic growth. I would like us to change the paradigm from the economy based on consumption and remittances to the one which relies on entrepreneurship, investments, innovation and export. We want to align the goals of the business environment and of the public institutions,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.   

The PM highlighted that the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union opened new opportunities for the country, but also implies the responsibility to advance on the reforms meant to adjust the political, economic and social systems to the European Union’s ones.   

„If we want to be in the European family, we need quick economic growth, in order to improve the people’s living standards. Our country has potential for developing the agriculture, processing industry services, tourism and information technologies and through improving the infrastructure and the business environment, new investments can be attracted and the development of the private sector can be stimulated. This implies that the government, society and business people should provide a friendly environment for economic development. We must solve the most pressing problems together,’’ the prime minister added.  

The participants in the discussion tackled constraints faced by the business environment, such as the non-loyal competition, lack of qualified labour force or access to medical services. At the same time, the members of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister touched upon the need to motivate the employees, the liberalization of the labour market, backing efforts of energy optimization of the big companies and encouraging of startups. At the same time, they appreciated the authorities’ efforts to promote the package of laws on digitalization and de-regulation, which reduce the bureaucracy for entrepreneurs.
