Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 20 inspectors of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) are suspected of having allowed corruption offences. Officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) today made 37 searches on this case.

„The CNA employees, under the leadership of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, carried out criminal prosecution actions on 20 criminal files opened on the systemic corruption with the involvement of ANSA employees. It is about the inspection post at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point,’’ the CNA head, Iulian Rusu, said at a today’s news conference.

Thus, the CNA officers documented about 200 cases of receiving money by the concerned inspectors – sums varying from 100 to 1,000 lei. The money would have been received, ‘’in order not to document or not to verify properly the consignments of goods which were crossing the Leuseni border inspection point.’’

Iulian Rusu said that 37 searches had been made in job offices, at the homes and transport means of the people concerned. As a result, 106,000 lei, 18,000 euros, 200 dollars and an insignificant sum of Romanian lei was raised. At the same time, 20 mobile phones and documents were raised too.

All those 20 ANSA inspectors are to be prosecuted at large, being subpoenaed by the criminal prosecution body, in order to inform them about the ordinances on recognition as suspect.

ANSA director Radu Musteata said the institution he leads dissociated from the employees who allow manifestations of corruption in their work.
