Chisinau, 2 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan-Romanian partnership in the security and defence sector will be boosted. The defence ministers of Moldova and Romania made statements to this effect at a joint news conference today.

Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii thanked Romania for the support provided, including through programmes on assistance and training of servicemen.

„Romania’s government provides us a significant assistance, including through diverse trainings, joint trainings, as well as expertise provided for modernizing the defence system. I emphasize Romania’s assistance in the promotion of external projects meant for strengthening Moldova’s defence capacity, the enhanced package of assistance on behalf of the NATO, as well as the one on behalf of the European Institute of Peace. This support makes our cooperation stronger. The solid cooperation between our countries is even more important for us in the present context, as well as now, when we are in a comprehensive process of European integration. Today, we discussed also the historical event which Moldova is to host on 1 June, the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), during which the Moldovan leadership and European leaders will tackle our plans and will ask for support for the country’s development, including in the security and defence sector. The presence of those 50 leaders of the European countries, among whom also Romania, shows that Moldova has a reliable partnership, in order to maintain peace at home, in the region and in the entire Europe,’’ Nosatii noted.

National Defence Minister of Romania Angel Tîlvăr, reiterated that the institution he leads supports the Moldovan authorities in the process of army’s reform, enhancing the resilience and defence before a wide spectrum of threats. ’’It is quite clear that we share the same concerns as regards the serious consequences of Russia’s aggression war in Ukraine for our region. Therefore, we must unify internationally the strong backing of Moldova – a state exposed to Russia’s hybrid threats, pronounced by misinformation and propaganda campaigns. I congratulate Moldova for the way it has managed these challenges so far. For us, Moldova is a strategic priority,’’ Tîlvăr said.

Romania’s National Defence Minister Angel Tîlvăr is on a two-day official visit to Moldova. The visit’s agenda comprises meetings with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
