ELECTIONS IN GAGAUZIA: Runoff elections to be held on 14 May

Chisinau, May 5 /MOLDPRES/- Gagauzia electoral commission announced that the runoff elections for governor position of the autonomy will be held on 14 May.
According to the Comrat electoral authority, the candidates supported by the Shor Party and the Socialist Party, Evghenia Guţul and Grigori Uzun will attend the runoff.
After the first round of elections, held on April 30, these candidates placed in the first two places according to the number of votes: Evghenia Guţul - 26.5%; Grigori Uzun (26.4%).
The other candidates picked up less and thus left the electoral race: Victor Petrov (16.2%); Dmitri Croitor (10.4%); Nicolai Dudoglo (9%); Serghei Cimpoieş (5.7%); Mihail Formuzal (3.5%); Serghei Cernev (2.3%).
Over 57 thousand citizens with the right to vote participated in the 30 April elections, which represents a turnout rate of 57.8 percent.
The governor (bashkan) is the supreme official of the Gagauz-Yeri Territorial-Autonomous Unit. All the authorities of the public administration of the autonomy are subordinated to him. Governor elections are held once every four years.
