Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, along with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean have laid flowers at the Eternity Memorial Complex, in the memory of the millions of people who had died during the Second World War. The officials expressed gratitude for those who had sacrificed themselves to save other human lives and fought for peace to return to the European continent, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„Today, we honour the memory of the heroes, of those who died for their children to live in peace. The war in Ukraine showed us how important the peace is. Unfortunately, we have people who make use of this day to justify Russia’s war and this fact represents a dishonor for those whom we commemorate,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
„This is a day of commemoration, on which we think about the sacrificed lives for the ambition of dictators. Unfortunately, the mankind has not learned its lesson as yet and at present we have a horrible war in the neighbourhood, unleashed by Russia,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
PM Dorin Recean stressed that the celebration of the victory in the World War II had always been accompanied by gratitude for the peaceful sky; yet, in the context of the war in Ukraine, the peace is no longer something guaranteed. ‘’At present, we understand that the peace is the result of joint actions. We celebrate the European peace and the capacity of some countries to give up war as instrument of foreign policy. We celebrate the project of the European Union, an economic, political, social project, a project of peace in which we want to participate.’’
