European experts to help Moldova set up projects for infrastructure development

Chisinau, May 10. /MOLDPRES/- This June, a team of European experts will be in the Republic of Moldova to explain in detail what are the criteria and conditions for creating a successful project within the European Union mechanism for the development of transport and road infrastructure. European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean made the statement in Chisinau last night.

According to the official, EU projects are approved by an independent Committee and are not granted by the European authorities. The committee has an evaluation method, based on judgments set by well-established methodologies in the field that determine the value of the project, making a hierarchy.

"In the European Union there is a lot of competition on distribution of infrastructure funds. The world needs money, but there is always a good balance of development needs in various parts of the network. However, countries that are already very developed and have several sources of financing realize they are in a competition with countries that need more support. It's not based on the principle of who's bigger and stronger, that's what gets the project," Vălean said.

"On the other hand, Moldova is in a stressful situation in terms of infrastructure, namely the need to participate in the so-called "corridors of solidarity", and I want to thank the authorities from Chisinau for their involvement and the effort made. Much is being done to improve these corridors, of which the Republic of Moldova is also a part, in the context of transporting goods from/to Ukraine. It is a very suitable moment for Moldova to come up with its projects and priorities, having very good chances. Of course, if they will be written with quality, because this is the main criterion", said the European Commissioner.

Adina Vălean paid a visit to Chisinau yesterday, and had meetings with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The European official also participated in the signing of the Agreement on Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), as well as the Agreements between the Republic of Moldova and Romania regarding the modernization of three bridges over the Prut from north to south: Sculeni - Sculeni bridge, Leușeni - Albița bridge and Cahul – Oancea bridge.
