Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/ - Anticorruption prosecutors today carried out 11 searches at the homes and vehicles of eight people. The actions took place within a criminal file opened on deeds of corrupting voters by representatives of the Shor Political Party and prompting the electors to vote for a certain electoral contender at the elections in the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) Gagauzia.
According to the National Anticorruption Centre, the searches took place in the Chisinau city, as well as in the Vulcanesti, Cimislia towns and Comrat city. Within criminal prosecution actions, law-enforcers detected and raised more documents and assets: mobile phones, rough copies, lists with contact data of people, memory sticks, sums of money. All persons are prosecuted at large.
According to the materials accumulated, on the period since March till present, the concerned electoral contender and its initiative group would have deliberately accepted financial means on behalf of an organized crime ring, which would have been and are used for the illicit remuneration of the activists involved in the electoral campaign for the election of the bashkan (governor) of UTA Gagauzia, as well as for prompting the electors to vote for the formation’s candidate. From the evidence managed, law-enforcers established that each activist had been remunerated with 15,000 lei (about 750 euros) for prompting 30 voters to cast their ballots for the candidate of the Shor Party.
The criminal prosecution is led by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
