Moldovan PM says strong democracy means civil society's involvement in Moldova's accession to EU

Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean has participated in an event on the launch of a project titled, The Civil society for European integration. The project is carried out by the Expert-Grup Independent Analytical Centre, in partnership with the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, Virtutes Civilis Institutum and Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The goal of the project is to improve the capacities, to ensure the resilience and enhance the participation of the civil society’s organizations in the process of monitoring of the budgets centrally and locally. An important objective is the one to enhance the involvement of civil society’s representatives in backing the agenda of Moldova’s Europeanization.
PM Dorin Recean reminded the need to consolidate the partnership between the authorities and the civil society. He also referred to the role of the civil society in ensuring the transparency and in promoting the benefits of Moldova’s accession to EU.
„The civil society has always assumed a role of facilitating the democracy in the society. The fact that we are here, having the status of country candidate, is due including to the considerable and solid effort of the civil society. Moreover, it has the role to monitor the government’s actions and to provide the expertise needed in the European integration process, such as the adaptation of the legislation and of the regulations demanded, so that the state’s institutions work as they were designed. We stay open for boosting the dialogue between the government and the civil society, as a strong democracy means the involvement of the civil society in the process of joining EU,’’ the prime minister said.
The project, The Civil society for European integration, is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
