Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - The People’s Assembly (local parliament) of the Gagauz-Yeri Autonomous Territorial Unit, which held an extraordinary meeting today evening, approved a decision, thereby approving and considering valid the results of the runoff of the elections of the region’s governor (bashkan), held on 14 May, announced by the Comrat electoral commission.
The regional lawmakers assembled urgently, after the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), along with the National Investigation Inspectorate, under the leadership of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, today raised the lists of the voters from the Comrat Court. According to CNA, the reason for this action represents the reasonable suspicion as to the inclusion in electoral lists of the dead people and who are abroad and the voting on their behalf.
Also today, the Central Electoral Commission informed that it had initiated eight contraventional suits on deeds of illegal financing of electoral contenders, who received donations from private people, with the exceeding of the maximal ceiling established by the law, at the elections held at the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
The meeting of the People’s Assembly continues and we will come up with other information.
