Chisinau, May 21. /MOLDPRES/- Today the war is far from the homes of Moldovans because Ukrainians fight heroically and give their lives for their land and nation. This war clearly shows us that we no longer want to be blackmailed by Kremlin. President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu made the statement today at the European Moldova National Assembly, held today in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN).

"We want to keep our country and our children out of the danger of war. Only by being members of the European Union will we not be alone and we will have the guarantee of safety and peace for Moldovans", said the president.

The president said "Moldova has hardly separated itself from the past in which it depended too much on Kremlin and now looks proudly towards a European future". "Moldovans know how to make the difference and make the right choice, because there is no family in Moldova that does not have children, grandchildren in the European Union. We know from our own experience that prosperity and peace are in Europe. We, Moldovans, have known both realities and decided what we want for our country. Moldova will join the European Union and this must happen by 2030", Maia Sandu said.

After the speech of the head of state, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola took the stage, who said "Europe is Moldova, Moldova is Europe". The official began speech to the citizens in Romanian.

"Dear citizens of the Republic of Moldova, dear Europeans! You chose Europe and Europe welcomes you with open arms. Maia Sandu is an inspiring leader and I would like to stand with you when, this year, we start negotiations for EU accession. We live in times of instability, but Moldova remains proud. The world sees your courage and fight against atrocity. The world sees your generosity to Ukrainians, women and children. These actions show that you believe in EU values", said Roberta Metsola.

Later, composer Eugen Doga and writer Tatiana Țibuleac took the stage in PMAN.
