Gagauz-Yeri Autonomy: Promo-LEX association condemns more statements made in Comrat today

Chisinau, 22 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Promo-LEX association firmly condemns statements by representatives of the electoral commission form the Gagauz-Yeri Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) and lawyers of the candidate of the Shor Party, Evghenia Gutul, made at a today’s session of the Comrat Court of Appeal, which considers the recognition of the results of the elections and the validation of the bashkan’s mandate. They regarded Promo-LEX, suggesting that, if the Association did not find out irregularities in the electoral campaign, they would not have taken place.

Promo-LEX firmly condemns this manipulating approach or the Association has earlier explained, including to the representatives of the regional electoral authority, that it would not publicly express its opinion on this ballot, as it has a limited mission, only a fact-collecting one, focused exclusively on the monitoring of the election day in both rounds (30 April and 14 May). ‘’Promo-LEX was not set to have a classical mission of observation of the regional elections, which is to monitor the entire electoral campaign and the observations on the day of elections are insufficient to assess the electoral process on the whole,’’ the organization said.

„The fact that the observation Mission did not publicly present its observations and findings from the day of elections does not mean at all that that irregularities or infringements of the legal norms did not occur in the electoral campaign. We believe that namely the law court is the one due to assess the presence or lack of infringements in the electoral process, proceeding from the materials submitted by the competent bodies,’’ Promo-LEX noted.

Promo-LEX is the non-governmental organization with the richest experience of monitoring the elections nationally. Starting from 2009, Promo-LEX monitored over 24 ballots (local, parliamentary and presidential), with the involvement of over 16,000 national observers. The goal of the Observation Missions is to inform the public about the way the elections are organized and held, as well as to enhance the citizens’ confidence in the electoral process.
