Well-known departed Moldovan fine artist commemorated at 35th anniversary of death, 100th anniversary of birthday

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - Fine artists, former disciples of the departed well-known fine artist, Igor Vieru, writers, journalists, cinema men, curators, photographers, etc. have participated in events organized in the memory of the departed painter. The actions took place in Vieru’s native village of Cernoleuca, northern Donduseni district, on 24 May, when the 35th anniversary of the painter’s passing away was marked. The 100th birthday anniversary of the departed fine artist will be marked also this year on 23 December.     

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the Moldovan Fine Artists’ Union, Florina Breazu, said that the complex schedule had included a religious service of commemorating the departed painter at the village church, a visit to the cemetery, a summer painting school, as well as a national discussion titled, Igor and Roland Vieru, promoters of the national colour in the fine art.  

”The personality and the work of Igor Vieru represents an important benchmark in the registration and turning to good account of the culture and people’s traditions and, like the medieval monasteries, they represent a refuge and shelter for the spirits thirsty for ideal, truth, beauty and values of the Romanian culture,’’ Florina Breazu stressed.    

Igor Vieru was born on 23 December 1923 and died on 24 May 1988. He was a painter and book illustrator. Along with writers Grigore Vieru and Spiridon Vangheli, Igor Vieru proposed to children the friendliest  ABC-book from the former Soviet Union.
