Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - The United Kingdom temporarily and unilaterally liberalizes all customs duties imposed on the import of the agricultural products coming from Moldova. This was possible after agreements on the amendment of the Agreement on the strategic partnership, trade and cooperation between Moldova and the UK had been signed in Chisinau today.
The amendments to the Agreement see the unilateral and temporary removal, for an initial period of 12 months, of the tariff contingents on the import of agricultural products coming from Moldova on the British market and temporary removal of the entry prices for the farming products provided for in the agreement. Presently, the quotas are established for such products as tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, sweet cherries, plums, grapes juice.
„I am honoured to sign, on behalf of Moldova, the amendments which are really meant to improve and confirm the joint interest in a good economic cooperation between our countries. The Agreement on Strategic Partnership, Trade and Cooperation between Moldova and the United Kingdom represents the main pillar in the consolidation of the economic relations between our countries, through which we provide new opportunities of business and investments,’’ the state secretary at the Economic Development and Digitalization Ministry (MDED), Vadim Gumene, said.
The initiative to liberalize the import of products from Moldova comes on behalf of the United Kingdom, as a token of solidarity and support for Moldova, a press release of MDED reads.
Presently, the bilateral legal framework between Moldova and UK comprises about 15 economic agreements. During 2022, the United Kingdom ranked 19th among the commercial partners of Moldova in the world, with a share of 0.98 per cent of the overall commerce.
