Poland to support Moldova in EU accession process

Chisinau, May 30. /MOLDPRES/- Poland is ready to provide political support as well as the necessary knowledge in the effort of the Republic of Moldova on the path to full EU membership. The support is to be granted both bilaterally and through the relevant European mechanisms and instruments. The commitment is set in the Joint Declaration of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Moldova, signed yesterday in Warsaw.

The document was signed by co-heads of the Assembly Mihail Popșoi and Ryszard Terlecki.

According to the document, the Moldovan-Polish Parliamentary Assembly appreciates the European Council's decision to grant the Republic of Moldova the status of a candidate country for EU accession and strongly believes in starting negotiations for our country's accession to the EU by the end of the current year.

"The accession process of the Republic of Moldova should proceed dynamically, based on meritocracy, without artificial obstacles being created, respecting, at the same time, the conditions derived directly from the EU treaties. In this regard, we strongly believe that, following a positive recommendation from the European Commission, the decision of the European Council in December 2023 to open EU accession negotiations as soon as possible will ensure the irreversibility of Moldova's European path and give reforms a systemic boost in the long term", it is mentioned in the Declaration approved by the Moldovan and Polish parliamentarians.
