EU Council approves doubling of financial assistance provided to Moldova

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Council of the European Union today approved the doubling of the macro-financial assistance provided to Moldova from 150 million euros up to 295 million euros.
In April 2022, EU ruled to provide Moldova with 150 million euros. Subsequently, the assistance was supplemented by another 145 million euros, which means an overall sum of 295 million euros, provided to Moldova.
The EU’s macro-financial assistance is aimed at backing the economic stabilization and the agenda of structural reform of Moldova, thus completing the resources made available within the agreement with IMF, reads a press release by the EU Council.
„We will continue supporting Moldova, including financially. Taking into account the present circumstances, it is opportune that we double the funds we make available to Moldova,’’ the quoted source noted.
Following the approval of the decision by the Council of the European Union, European MP Siegfried Muresan said that ‘’Moldova urgently needs this money, in order to guarantee the economic stability and to take new measures of support for people.’’
As much as 220 million euros out of the total sum is provided as loans and 75 million euros – as grants.
