Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) today informed that it had finished the criminal prosecution against Marina Tauber and the Shor Political Party.

According to PA, the MP and the legal entity Shor Political Party are suspected on four counts for the forging of reports on the financing of the electoral campaign and of the political party and the acceptance of illegal financing on behalf of an organized crime ring.

Thus, prosecutors found out that Marina Tauber, while participating as candidate nominated by the Shor Political Party for the office of Balti city mayor, during the electoral campaign from November 2021, deliberately and in preliminary agreement with the party’s treasurer, acting at an urge and in strict coordination with the organized crime ring led by Ilan Shor, received from the organized crime ring financial means worth 9,752,000 lei, of which she falsely introduced a sum of 740,464.50 lei in forms of donations on behalf of 104 private people, who in reality did not donate this sum of money. She put down this forged data in the reports in the financial management of the electoral campaigns, by replacing, hiding the identity of donors, volumes of means accumulated and used, and then she personally signed the reports and registered them, at the Central Electoral Commission.

Also, Tauber accepted the financing of the electoral contender on behalf of an organized crime ring on the period of the local elections for the position of mayor of the Balti municipality from 21 November 2021 in an amount of 9,752,000 lei.

At the same time, Marina Tauber is also charged with the fact that, in her capacity of deputy president of the Shor Political Party, in the interests of the political formation, accepted the financing of the political party on behalf of the organized crime ring led by Ilan Shor, in a total amount of 195,518,013 lei. This money represents illicit financial sources integrated in the work and maintenance of the party, in order to promote and fulfill the interests of the organized crime ring on the political stage of Moldova, to seize the state power.

On 26 May 2023, the Moldovan MPs approved the applications of the acting Prosecutor General on the lift of the immunity of Marina Tauber on three counts, stripping her of parliamentary immunity. Earlier in July 2022, the parliament allowed the lift of the immunity on the fourth count.

The Prosecutor’s Office informs that, at this phase, the materials of the criminal file are to be presented to the defendants and their lawyers, their applications and approaches are to be settled and subsequently, the criminal file is to be submitted to court.
