Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will receive a new assistance package on behalf of EU. The package includes a support worth about 1.6 billion euros and will be focused on five initiatives. European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, who arrived in Chisinau to participate in the Summit of the European Political Community (EPC Summit), has made statements to this effect.

According to Ursula Von der Leyen, the initiative first regards the lowering, as of early 2024, of the roaming tariffs between Moldova and the EU states. The second initiative concerns the energy sector, for which a support of 100 million euros will be provided. The money will help optimize the buildings and finance energy projects. Also, investments will be made for the interconnection of the high-tension lines between Moldova and Romania.

The third initiative regards the modernization and rehabilitation of the railways. Fifty million euros will be made available to this end. The fourth initiative regards the security sector and the resilience. ‘’EU has earlier agreed for a support of 40 million euros for the military sector. Now, we want to increase the support for Moldova, especially as we clearly see how Russia tries to destabilize the situation through hybrid actions,’’ the European official said.

The fifth initiative implies the increase in the number of members of the EU delegations in Chisinau, in order to facilitate the process of Moldova’s integration into the European Union.
