NATO deputy secretary general says NATO's allies fully support Moldova's European integration

Chisinau, 6 June /MOLDPRES/ - The NATO allies fully support Moldova’s European integration. NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana today made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu in Brussels.      

The Alliance’s official stressed that NATO and Moldova had been holding cooperation relations for three decades already. ‘’Following the unleashing of the war in Ukraine, the level of cooperation was enhanced. Russia destabilized the democracy in the region and Moldova responds to this situation with determination. We back the consolidation of the security institutions and we are sure that Moldova’s future is in the democratic family of the European Union,’’ Mircea Geoana said.    

For his part, Deputy PM Nicu Popescu noted that NATO had always supported the process of reformation, the democracy, peace and stability in Moldova. ‘’The discussions have the goal to anchor Moldova in the European area. At the same time, the dialogue represents a good way of speeding up the cooperation between our country and the NATO. We thank you for the support provided in the processes of reformation and consolidation of the freedom and democracy. NATO is a very important partner for us in maintaining peace in Europe. For Moldova, it is now quite important not to be alone, to strengthen friendships with the states and organizations which help us maintain the peace and stability,’’ Nicu Popescu also said.    

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu pays a two-day working visit to Brussels and Stockholm, in order to deepen the bilateral dialogue, discuss the European agenda and boost the process of Moldova’s accession to EU.
