Chisinau, August 12 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova celebrates International Youth Day today. On this occasion, in the morning, a special run of the Youth Train started from the Chisinau Railway Station. Its destination is the city of Ungheni, declared the 2023 Youth Capital and which will today host various events dedicated to young people.

Over 200 young people boarded the Youth Train. During the trip, they will participate in activities organized by the Development Training Institute Millenium and specialists of the network of Youth Friendly Health Clinics Youth Klinic, which will mobilize young people to interact and get to know each other.

Arriving in Ungheni, young people will be able to have fun and learn in the seven thematic areas, set up in the central park "Micul Cluj" in the capital of youth - Ungheni. Games, contests, masterclasses, raffles with prizes will be organized for the participants.

At the Railway Station, together with the more than 200 young people,  Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun boarded the train going to Ungheni. The official noted the initiatives launched recently to support young people in our country.

UNFPA Moldova country representative Nigina Abaszada said the Youth Train is a symbolic action, which aims to draw attention to the needs and potential of young people, who are agents of change and who shape the future.

On International Youth Day, EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks also came with a message. In a video spot, the European diplomat encouraged young people to be the driving forces of change and to become benchmarks of a sustainable life, because they, the young people, "are today's leaders who build tomorrow's Moldova - a modern country, a European country".

In Moldova, almost every third person is young and aged between 14-35 years.

In 1999, the General Assembly of the United Nations designated August 12 as International Youth Day. Celebrated globally for the past two decades, 12 August has been promoted as the annual celebration of young people, as key partners in change and as an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges and issues facing young people across the world.
