Wheat, barley, rape harvest campaign ended

Chisinau, August 13 /MOLDPRES/- The wheat, barley and rape harvest campaign has reached its final stage. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) announced that agricultural producers recorded a good harvest. Average wheat production exceeds 4 tons per hectare. To celebrate excellence in agricultural practices, sustainability and innovation, the first edition of the festive event "Seceriș 2023", dedicated to professionals in the field was organized.

The event took place in the field of a farmer from Băcioi. About 180 farmers were awarded diplomas of merit, awarded in the categories: high productivity of Group I cereals, exemplary contribution to paying taxes, creating and maintaining jobs, the most active young person involved in agriculture and the mechanizer with outstanding technical skills.

Speaker Igor Grosu was also present at the event, who referred to the challenges associated with the war in the region and emphasized the importance and impact of the modernization of agricultural activities. "We will identify ways for farmers to have access to high-performance technology, in order to generate added value. The war in Ukraine and the blockade of the Black Sea have disrupted the logistics routes, but it is a chance to turn misfortunes into opportunities. I am convinced that together with our partners we will find solutions", Grosu said.

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, spoke about the actions launched in support of agricultural producers. "The government approved the allocation of 200 million lei, money that will be distributed to farmers, to reduce cost prices. The subsidy measure for fertilizers used in autumn 2022 will be opened as soon as possible. Also, agricultural producers will benefit from subsidizing the excise tax on purchased diesel. The Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture has already completed the first stage of receiving subsidy requests for this measure," said Vladimir Bolea.

The official said "the situation in the region is complicated, which leads us to gather and talk about the economic strategy for selling products." 

The event was attended by Ambassador of Japan to Chisinau Yamada Yoichiro, the deputy head of the US diplomatic mission in the Republic of Moldova, Laura Hruby, Minister of Finance Veronica Sirețeanu, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu, executive director of the Agency for the Modernization and Development of Agriculture Maxim Popov, distributors of agricultural machinery and equipment.

According to statistics, this year, in the Republic of Moldova, the area sown with wheat was 372.2 thousand ha, autumn and spring barley - 59.6 thousand ha, and rapeseed - 81.6 thousand ha.
