Over 5,000 new laptops to reach schools in Moldova

Chisinau, August 14 /MOLDPRES/- 5,020 laptops will be distributed to over 900 general education institutions in the country in the next period. The equipment was purchased as part of Moldova Education Reform Project (MERP), implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), with the financial support of the World Bank.
Laptops will be used in the educational process and will replace outdated equipment in primary schools and high schools. The number of students in the institution and the "units of new technology per student" ratio were taken into account when selecting the beneficiary institutions. The number of laptops that will arrive in institutions varies between 3 and 24 units.
This year, MEC also provided schools with 1,480 laptops, purchased with the support of the MERP and UNICEF project, 340 computers donated by South Korea and 2,174 tablets - by South Korea, China and Israel.
In total, the general education institutions in the country had, as of August 1, 49,250 units of computer technology (computers, laptops and tablets).
As part of Enhancing Quality of Education project, approved by the Government in June 2023, through the grant offered by the Global Partnership for Education, financial means worth 4.8 million dollars will be allocated for the modernization of the infrastructure, the digital transformation of the environment of learning in about 200 schools, and for training teachers' digital skills.
