Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 3 September started her working visit to the Netherlands with a meeting with Moldovans who live in this country, the presidential press service has reported.

„I started my visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands with a warm discussion with Moldovans settled there, with much interest in the situation at home. We talked about the reforms in the economy, justice, security risks in the country and the region, the impact of the climate changes and the government’s actions on adaptation to the new conditions,’’ the head of state said.

Also, a subject of great interest was the education and namely how competitive universities can be constructed in Moldova, how the research can be settled at universities, what is done to enhance the quality of the general education and how the problem of providing with well-educated teaching staff can be solved.

„Most of those over 100 Moldovan country people present at the event came there for education and then remained to work in the Netherlands. Yet, everybody is quite interested in the situation at home; many of them organize activities on the promotion of Moldova’s image in the Netherlands and participate in projects carried out in Moldova. I encouraged them to return home – especially now, when the processes related to the accession to EU gather pace and we need ever more well-trained specialists in order to advance,’’ the Moldovan president stressed.

Also, Maia Sandu awarded distinctions to culture people who, through their outstanding professional work, contribute to promotion of Moldova’s image abroad. ‘’I awarded the honorific title to Master in Art, soprano Diana Axentii, piano player Mariana Izman and violin player Ionel Manciu and the piano players Laura Balicov and Stanislav Jar were awarded the honorific title of Merited Artist. I thank the Noroc Olanda (Luck the Netherlands) team for the organization of the meeting and for the fact that they promote the country and its values abroad,’’ the head of state added.
