EcoContact: Study visit to Austria to strengthen sustainable management of protected areas

Chisinau, 13 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- EcoContact public association organized a study visit to Austria on September 4-9 as part of the project Consolidation of climate change adaptation measures in the Lower Prut biosphere reserve. It is financed by the Austrian Development Agency with sources from the Austrian Development Cooperation, and implemented by EcoContact, in partnership with the Ecological Counseling Center Cahul.

The visit aimed at acquiring knowledge and skills related to the effective and correct management of protected areas, with a focus on preservation. It served as a platform for discussions, exchange of experience and good practices, as well as provided the opportunity to set common actions for future cooperation.

"In particular, the representatives of the national parks in Austria shared the experience of their creation, addressing the premises, the evolution of the activities, the way of cooperation with the central and local authorities on the management of the parks. In this context, both the positive experiences and the challenges encountered throughout the activity were highlighted, as well as the solutions that helped to resolve some conflicts among citizens as regards the creation of national parks. They also discussed about activities to strengthen the level of awareness of the importance of protected areas among the young generation", EcoContact said.

The Moldovan delegation representatives presented how the Lower Prut biosphere reserve works, the climate change adaptation measures taken under the project. "The sides emphasized openness for future collaboration and the initiation of joint projects," the quoted source said.
