PM on visit to cooperative from central Moldova village

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean has visited the cooperative Ved Mar Agro from the Costesti village, central Ialoveni district, specialized in the growing of high-quality table grapes, according to the European standards. He cooperative was set up by the Vidrasco family and holds 42 hectares of plantations, of which 7 hectares through the use of the Pergola system, which protects the harvest from unfriendly weather conditions and significantly increases its quantity, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.     

Annually, the harvest is of about 600 tons of grapes, exported to the European Union’s market. The cooperative is also the only Moldova’s exporter of grapes to the United States and participates in diverse exhibitions in Germany, Italy and Spain. Ved Mar Agro provides services of preservation, sorting and packing of products and holds a trademark.     

In their work, the owners benefited from subsidies provided by the Agency of Interventions and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) and programmes launched by foreign partners, which allowed extending the production capacity.

In discussions with entrepreneurs, PM Dorin Recean appreciated the effort made to develop the business, noting that the state would continue contributing to the implementation of technologies in agriculture. ‘’You are an example of entrepreneurial spirit worth being followed. Through the activity you carry out, you prove that the perseverance in work and the product’s quality are basic conditions for the development of a success business,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.   

On a visit to the Ialoveni district, the prime minister met also employees of the Milestii Mici enterprise of quality wines. As many as 157 people are employed at the enterprise, of whom 100 are local residents.  

The enterprise is profitable, with growing exports and achievements in terms of tourism – 7,510 tourists visited the enterprise in last August alone. The business is continuously developing and halls for events and conferences are scheduled to be opened in the long run.  

In a discussion with enterprise’s employees, PM Dorin Recean referred to the government’s priorities in the economy sector, stressing that the authorities would continue backing the development of businesses, increasing investments and creation of well-paid jobs. At the same time, the prime minister emphasized that the businesses from the wine-making sector stimulated the competitiveness on the domestic market and boosted the local economy, including in the tourism field.
