Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/ - More European structures with headquarters in Moldova, led by the Delegation of the European Union in Moldova, have participated in the 2023 year edition of the World Cleanup Day, held on the third Saturday of September.

The campaign was carried out in the Oxentea village, eastern Dubasari district, on the bank of the Dniester river. ‘’Over 120 people joined to clean the Oxentea settlement. Diplomats, employees of institutions from the settlement, pupils of the gymnasium and residents from the area cleaned together the Oxentea park, collected dozens of bags and the waste collected was separated in paper, plastic, glass for an easier subsequent recycling,’’ the European Union’s Delegation in Moldova said.

„The cleaning of a village is as important as the promotion of a cleaner planet. This is the reason for which the European Union undertakes actions both to protect the environment and to generate less waste and less pollution. Today in Oxentea, we everybody proved that, through joint effort, we can change for the better the place where we live, work and study. On this occasion, I invite all of you to support this initiative nearby your home and to participate, with the family members, friends and the entire community. Let us turn this initiative into a lifestyle, a useful habit,’’ Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said.

The campaign dedicated to the World Cleanup Day in Moldova is carried out nationally by the National Environment Centre.

The World Cleanup Day is an annual programme of social actions, carried out internationally, the goal of which is to combat the wrongly managed crisis of waste. The World Cleanup Day brings together millions of volunteers, governments and organizations, in 197 countries and territories, in order to combat the wrongly managed global crisis of waste and to contribute to the creation of a new, more ecological world.

The event, World Cleanup Day, held in the Oxentea village, aligns with the general campaign dedicated to the EU Green Diplomacy Weeks, marked in Moldova in September and October with the title, We Edify the future: ecological, renewable energy and equal chances. The EU Green Diplomacy Weeks started with the Festival Sun Dă-i Fest and will end with the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28), planned for 30 November – 12 December 2023.
