Chisinau, 19 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean participated in the 5th edition of the Justice Reform and Combating Corruption Forum. Attending the event were United States Ambassador to Chisinau Kent Logsdon and Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said that the justice reform remains the basic priority of the team he leads, and the citizens demand justice from the Government, noting that it is not the Government that must do justice, but justice, and the Government provides all the necessary tools for this.

“Every week, I go to the territory. In the discussions I have, three out of five citizens complain about injustice in the justice system. That's because the corrupt minority continues to have a hard time - they don't discuss and they don't listen. We still have criminals walking the streets and we have people who commit minor crimes but are locked up for 30 days. We must create a rule of law and return to normality. No attempt at obstruction stops us from our way of reforming the justice system. Governance provides all the necessary tools for honest and upright people in the system to step forward and ensure self-cleansing of the judiciary with firm steps. Our efforts are focused on ensuring integrity and competence in the judicial system," said Recean.

The event brought together the main actors in the justice sector, politicians, civil society representatives and development partners to the discussion to identify feasible and effective directions for improving justice reforms and the fight against corruption.

The event is organized by the Legal Resources Center, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Moldova. It is financially supported by the US State Department, through the International Office for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova.
