CSM members: Best solution for Iulian Muntean would be to submit resignation request

Chisinau, 22 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) came today with a statement on Iulian Muntean, recently appointed by the Parliament as a member of the CSM, who would appear in a corruption file. They claim that the best solution for Iulian Muntean would be to submit his resignation request.

"We, the members of the CSM declare that we cannot accept that a member of the CSM circumvents the extraordinary evaluation procedures, which have quite clear and rigorous requirements. In the absence of a justification and credible explanations regarding these circumstances, which led him not to communicate about his capacity as an accused in a criminal case, we believe that the best solution for Iulian Muntean would be to submit the resignation request", the statement reads.

According to the CSM members, Iulian Muntean did not declare before the Pre-vetting Commission information about the fact that a few years ago a criminal case was started, in which he was assigned the procedural status of accused. Under these conditions, the CSM members claim that like the entire society, they had no knowledge of these circumstances until September 20, 2023.

Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru came today with a reaction in this case. The official said "withdrawal or resignation" of Iulian Muntean "is required".

Iulian Muntean was appointed by Parliament as a member of the CSM on September 7. Later, information appeared in the public space according to which Muntean was accused in a criminal case of corruption. For his part, Iulian Muntean says that this so-called file was manufactured at the order of Plahotniuc regime, as a method of intimidation.
