Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - New Moldova’s Finance Minister Petru Rotaru today took the oath in the presence of President Maia Sandu.
The ceremony started with the singing of Moldova’s national anthem. President Maia Sandu wished the new minister success and set the principal priorities in the sector.
„The expectations of the society and the business environment are quite clear: we want less bureaucracy for the honest business people and we want you to firmly act against those who try to make fiscal evasion and side-step the law. We want more transparency in the sphere of public procurements and management of the state’s resources, including the resources generated in the country, as well as the external assistance. Your experience in the field of fiscal administration is valuable for continuing the efforts of reducing the bureaucracy in the fiscal and customs sector. Next year, the new Customs Code will enter into force and you will have lot of work to do to enforce its provisions. You have a difficult mission. I am confident that you will manage along with the ministry’s team and we want to see as many as possible good results for the citizens,’’ the head of state said.
Maia Sandu noted that the new minister ‘’will lead the institution which watches over the good and wise use of public money, everybody’s money, and this is a responsible mission.’’ ‘’The resources are always limited, no matter what country we talk about; in so much in our country, it is necessary that we spend the money judiciously, in order to manage to cope with the current needs, as well as to make investments for the country’s development,’’ the official also said.
At the same time, Maia Sandu thanked the former finance minister, Veronica Sireteanu, for the work carried out. ‘’Veronica Sireteanu accepted to take over the responsibility for the management of the Finance Ministry on a difficult economic period. She managed to ensure a correct and efficient management of the public budget’s resources. We are grateful to her for the effort she made and we wish her good health and happiness in the new phase of her life,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The new finance minister will replace Veronica Sireteanu, who ended the mandate in the context of her going on maternity leave. The decree on the appointment of Petru Rotaru was signed by the head of state on 27 September, just as the one on the resignation of Minister Veronica Sireteanu.
Petru Rotaru has worked in the financial and fiscal field starting from 2006, both in the private sector and in the public one. During 2010-2012, he led the Ialoveni State Fiscal Inspectorate and starting from last March, he has been holding the position of head of the State Fiscal Service.
