Moldovan president says integration in EU only way to protect peace, democracy, country

Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, in the end of the Moldova Support Platform today, said that the integration into the European Union was not only a political decision, but the only way to protect the peace, democracy and the country and was an investment in the collective security of Europe.  

Maia Sandu said that, in the last one year and a half, Moldova had worked a lot to carry out the reforms presented by the European Commission. ‘’ We hope that, in next December, the European Commission will rule to launch the negotiations for Moldova, so that we become member till 2030,’’ the head of state said.   

The official also said that ‘’the great support received in the last years shows us not only that the Moldovans are Europeans and deserve to be part of the European Union, but also that we are welcome.’’ ‘’We want the entire world to know that Moldova is a safe country, free to decide its future, which understands the seriousness of the challenges faced and is able to overcome them for the benefit of its citizens,’’ Maia Sandu said.      

According to the president, the authorities’ plan ‘’is to preserve the peace at home, to ensure European living conditions in our settlements, to construct modern roads all over the country, European railway, bridges which are to connect us to Romania and the European Union.’’     

Maia Sandu today gave a speech at the end of the fourth issue of the Moldova Support Platform, which brought together 57 delegations from more than 30 countries, international organizations and financial institutions.
