Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - The former head of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), Iulian Rusu, after the parliament had taken note of his resignation, today held a news briefing, during which he unveiled the results of CNA’s work during his mandate. The former CNA head did not answer journalists’ questions.

According to Iulian Rusu, during those almost two years of mandate, the institution investigated more civil servants, heads of institutions, heads of districts, as well as judges and prosecutors.

“On the concerned period, CNA considered 1,288 offences, of which 480 were finished and 307 were accepted by prosecutors to be submitted to court with proposal of accusation. Also, I want to attract attention on the very good results achieved by the Crime Assets Recovery Agency. Respectively, on this period, we have managed to levy distraint on assets worth 2.6 billion lei. A good deal of these distraints were enforced abroad,’’ Rusu said.

The former CNA head noted that, on the last period, the institution had cooperated with its counterparts from European countries. He added that 550 reports on expertise and 14 reports on strategic analyses had been submitted to the authorities.

„I want also to point to the fact that important efforts have been made to clean the Centre from employees with suspicions of committing corruption acts. Thus, on this period, 50 people left and another 45 were employed through a quite rigorous procedure of verification, including the polygraph testing,’’ Rusu added.

Iulian Rusu was appointed to the office of director of the National Anticorruption Centre for a period of five years on 3 February 2022. He graduated from the Oxford University, with the title of master of law. Till the appointment as CNA director, Rusu held the position of state secretary at the Justice Ministry and the one of executive director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms.
