Moldovan president participates in summing-up meeting of National Army

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, in her capacity of Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, today participated in the summing-up meeting of the National Army for the period January-October 2023.   

According to the presidential press service, attending the event was the strength of the National Army and the results of the work of the Defence Ministry and of other subordinated institutions were unveiled at the meeting.  

In her speech, President Maia Sandu appreciated the achievements from this year and emphasized the importance of the process of transformation of the National Army.

„A well-equipped, but badly paid and cared army will not cope with the challenges. We must enhance the attractiveness of the profession of military, in order to keep the experimented employees in the system. We support the legislative initiatives which improve the living standards of the military staff and the improvement their conditions for work,’’ the head of state said.   

This year, the budget meant for the national defence was increased, which along with the generous foreign assistance, will speed up the modernization of the defence sector and therefore, will contribute also to the social and economic development.  

„Without an efficient defence, it will difficult for us to achieve outstanding economic performances. The local and foreign investors are looking for safety, presently more than ever. Regarding thinks like this, the budgetary allocations for defence represent an investment in our future economic growth and the prosperity of our country,’’ the Moldovan president noted.      

The head of state appreciated the fact that the Moldovan armed forces represent not only an essential element for the national security and defence, but also contribute to the international peace and security, as Moldova’s servicemen are members of more peacekeeping missions in Europe, Africa and Middle East.
