Moldovan-Portuguese officials approach investment relations, cooperation

Chisinau, Oct. 31 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean had a meeting with Portuguese President Rebelo de Sousa, who is on an official visit to Chisinau. They discussed opportunities to boost economic and investment relations between Moldova and Portugal, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials approached the possibilities to develop trade relations and identify new ways of partnerships and investments in the renewable energy and energy efficiency, IT and modernization of transport infrastructure.

"The Republic of Moldova has talent and creativity, but needs investments. The priority areas of development of our country are infrastructure, renewable energy, agricultural industrialization, economic digitization. We know that economic development is important for increasing citizens' well-being and strengthening democracy", said Recean.

They appreciated the organization of the Business Forum in Chisinau on 31 October, hosted by the Investment Agency of Moldova. Portuguese companies active on the Romanian market are expected at the event, who will learn about business development opportunities in our country. On the sidelines of the Forum, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between investment agencies of Moldova and Portugal.

The two officials referred to the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the opportunities offered by the process of joining the European Union, including by opening new markets for exports. Rebelo de Sousa reconfirmed Portugal's support for the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova and for the intensification of friendly relations between our countries.

"The Republic of Moldova is a state that fights for democracy, human rights, peace and sovereignty, and the Portuguese Republic supports you in this noble goal. Democracy needs sustainable development and social justice, we are at your disposal to share our country's experience in the EU accession process," said the Portuguese official.

At the end, the official thanked Rebelo de Sousa for the support to overcome the energy and humanitarian crisis, caused by the brutal war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
