Wine of Moldova contest - 30 experts from eight countries to assess Moldovan wine quality

Chisinau, Oct. 31 /MOLDPRES/-  Moldovan wine quality will be assessed by an international specialized jury, made up of 30 experts from eight countries of the world at the second edition of the Wine of Moldova contest. The results will be included in Guidelines, which will contribute to promoting and positioning the wine on the local and international market.

The contest will be held on November 9 - 10 and will be organized by the National Vine and Wine Office, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and USAID Moldova, through the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Project.

The products will be evaluated in accordance with the regulations of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, according to the criteria specific to each of the five categories.

In the second edition, wines produced from native varieties such as: Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală, Răra Neagră and Fetească Neagră, new varieties of Moldovan selection, such as Viorica, Legenda, Alb de Onițcani, Riton, as well as wines obtained by blending them with those of European varieties, as well as spirits of wine origin.

The organoleptic characteristics of the wines will be appreciated by national experts, alongside international experts from eight countries: Romania, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Georgia, South Korea, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Each Jury will taste up to 50 samples per day of wines and up to 30 samples per day of spirits depending on the type of tasting commission. The tasting will take place on the basis of an Automated Data IT System, a tasting software. The results of each tasting will be entered electronically by each expert, thus ensuring the accuracy and immediate display of results upon completion of the tasting.

The wines which will score at the level of Gold Medal and Grand Gold Medal, over 89 and over 93 points, respectively, will be included in the Guidelines, along with a brief description, the production method, as well as the comments by international experts – jury members.

The winners will be awarded at the winter edition.
