Over 10 million euros to be invested in modernization of five universities of Moldova

Chisinau, 31 October /MOLDPRES/ - Five universities of Moldova will receive financing worth about 10.4 million euros for the implementation of 13 projects in priority sectors of professional training. As a result, more halls and laboratories will be endowed with advanced technologies and the teaching process will be modernized. More than 35,000 students will benefit from these investments.     

The beneficiary institutions are the Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University from Chisinau, the State University of Moldova, the Technical University of Moldova, the Alecu Russo State University from Balti and the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. They were selected following the second call of proposals of sub-projects within the Higher Education in Moldova Project.   

Twenty eight projects have been submitted for the contest. They were assessed by independent experts in the field, as well as by a multidisciplinary committee.  

Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that the projects’ implementation would contribute to the improvement of the conditions for education in the education institutions of Moldova and to the enhancement of their competitiveness.    

„We are set to speed up the process of modernization of the education institutions, by ensuring the endowment of laboratories, research centres and other environments for education, to train the human resource and improve the syllabi. These are meant to ensure a better adjusting of the higher education system to the requirements of the labour force market, as well as to create mechanisms which are to enhance the chances for employment of the graduates of the higher education institutions,’’ the minister said.     

The Higher Education in Moldova Project is financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Education and Research Ministry on the period 2020-2025. In 2022, about 14.3 million euros was allocated for the implementation of 20 projects at 13 education institutions, of which seven universities and six colleges.
